One tip when this happens is that you can drag all of the catalog files from the problematic catalog to a brand new catalog. Usually the new catalog will save somewhere.

I've had no trouble opening up iView catalogs on PCs and Macs. You should be able to open your ivc's on either platform in the same way that you can open a .TXT or a .PDF on a PC or a Mac.
