Hi folks
I hope someone can help. I've been working on a gallery that's currently located at http://www.kavamedia.org.uk/vwren which looks pretty good at the moment on my Mac, but I'm told, and having checked one of those online Browser Compatibility thingies, that the layout on the head page messes up on a PC.

I'm not the most proficient of web programmers. (In fact, I'm just not.) And I can't figure out why it's screwing up on a PC. Anyone have any ideas what I can do to fix it?

This is the only thing about iVIew that lets it down - it's lack of fuctionality when it comes to designing web galleries. Which is a shame! Editing the templates isn't really that easy - would love it if it integrated easily with Freeway..

Anyway - any clues as to why it's messing up on the PC..? Please? Thanks much!!

Does it not view correctly? I use iView for all my galleries and have no complaints with any clients. The code checkers often look for bad code or non standard code. IE is known for being its own thing and does not conform to standards. IE 7 and IE 6 actually are not compatible (a page optimized for IE 7 will report errors if checked against IE6 and vice versa).

Bottom line for me is...if it works, great. Ignore the compatibility checkers since IE will also be doing its own thing and you'll be chasing your tail.

Thanks for the reply. It actually didn't view correctly, but I put it down to one of the templates that I used/modified which did fancy stuff with CSS and XHTML or something just messed up in IE.

So after spending the time chasing my tail (!), I just switched to a more simple template and modified that. ANd WaHEY - works!

Now - if only I could figure out how to do a search on keywords on the html file....... Ahhh, right.

Thanks again!

I can confirm that it now looks nice and works fine on a PC viewed with IE7 or Firefox.

It's not easy to fix. It's a fact that most new web templates look ugly on a PC with IE. Beware of the Canvas template, the thumbnails are dead!

Then you better don't look at the web templates in Adobe Lightroom...

And with Opera 9.2.

At this stage I usually recommend to always test with Opera since it is the most standard-compliant browser - anything looking good in the newest version of Opera should look good in any other browser [no special tags used]. Unfortunately I have learned that IE7 breaks this, it seems to be so non-conformant that it has trouble showing things right when they are programmed as the W3C recommends.

Still, Opera is always a good testing ground - and with Adobe's CS3 its rendering engine is used for Dreamweaver for example.
