|Newbie here and finding the backup process a real pain. I will try to explain.
Objective: Want my files in three places ----
1. Main hard drive - with catalog
2. External drive #1 - with catalog
3. External drive #2 - with catalog
After much experimenting it seemed I needed three catalogs --
1. Main drive catalog
2. External drive #1 catalog
3. External drive #2 catalog
The pain starts when I need to add files with Keywords, etc.. I can add all the keywords, etc. with the main catalog on the main hard drive. It appears that the only way I can get that catalog information to the backup devices is with the "Make - Backup - option". In order for the backup catalog to function I must 'change the path' . This works for the backup catalog but now my main catalog has the wrong paths. The only way I can see to get the correct paths back for the main catalog is to again go to 'Make-Backup - option' with destination being the main drive and again choose the 'Change Paths' option. then I have to repeat the same process for the second external drive.
Hope this makes sense to someone. I am just learning and hope there is a better way.
